Google Maps gets Uber integration in India to enable easy cab booking

Google today integrated Uber into Google Maps in India to let users book cabs directly from its mapping service. The integration was originally announced in November last year.

With Uber integration, users can now be able to check information such as estimated pickup time, fare and travel time to a particular destination directly from Google Maps for Android and iOS. In addition, users can easily book an Uber cab through Uber app by tapping its card on Google Maps.

Though, cab booking requires the Uber app installation on the smartphone, it provides an easier way to start a new journey directly from Google Maps.

The Uber integration is initially available for uberX cab service. This means that riders of Uber Black or Uber Go still need to download the specific Uber app for using the ride-sharing service.

Late last month, Google Now got third-party app integration that brought direct integration from Ola and Meru Cabs in India. The new move seems to be a similar step for Uber riders in the country who Android-powered smartphones or iPhones during their journey.

Users need to have the latest version of Google Maps on their Android and iOS devices to get the Uber integration. However, there is no need to download any updated app package for any of the respective app store.

Earlier today, Uber added in-app SOS button and ‘Send Status’ feature to its mobile apps in India. Both the new features are now available and are part of the company’s strategy to give a safer and more secure ride-sharing experience in the country.
