Google Maps 7.0 for Android started rolling out with new interface and features

Google Maps for Android finally gets an update with new interface. Google Maps v7.0.0 is designed with all new interface and features for Android devices, the maps were earlier showcased at Google I/O 2013 event and now the same is coming to the Android devices across the globe.

The new Google Maps app featuring an all new interface for Android phones and tablets. The new app is also designed to provide enhanced navigation support with live traffic updates, incident reports and dynamic rerouting. Users can also discover popular places to eat, drink, shop, play and sleep in their local area through new ‘Explore’ feature.

On the part of interface, the new app has a clutter-free UI than the earlier version. The interface is based on Holo UI guidelines sketched for Android 4.0 or above platform. The new user interface features a floating search bar always on top at the time of viewing maps. The all new Google Maps provides information in a form of Card-like interface. The menu bar is now accessible from the top-left. The side menu has addition of layers and settings. Users can now send their feedback by shaking the device and also there is an option to disable the shake gesture by going through map settings.

The app also added some new layers as Traffic, Public Transit, Bicycling, Satellite and also there is a link to access Google Earth. The Explore feature provides data in the form of cards. The new Google Maps also provide reviews and time-distance to reach a place, right in the search results.

The new updated Google Maps v7.0.0 is designed for Android 4.0.3+ running phones and tablets. The update will be gradually rolling out to the compatible devices over the coming weeks.
