Google launches Chromebook Pixel with touch support, starting at $1,299

Google has upgraded the Chromebook segment and launches the high-end Chromebook Pixel. The Chromebook segment earlier popular for affordability but Google wants to be up in the tough competition by major competitors and introduce the all new Chromebook Pixel. The much-rumoured Chromebook Pixel is finally get into the real world and after partnering Samsung, Acer, Lenovo and HP for the Chromebook segment, Google unveils their own Chromebook Pixel with full touch support and premium price tag of $1.299.

The all new Chromebook Pixel, as the name suggests, has the perfect display with 239ppi pixel density and 12.85-inch size. The display packed with 4.3 million pixels, which offers vivid colors and extra-wide viewing angles. Google has stepped down the major competing device, Apple’s MacBook Pro with Retina Display and shows of the new world of touchscreen Chromebook. The display is also protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass and comes with a resolution of 2560 x 1700 pixels and 3:2 aspect ratio.

Google praises the screen of the Chromebook Pixel and states, ‘With a screen this rich and engaging, you want to reach out and touch it—so we added touch for a more immersive experience. Touch makes it simple and intuitive to do things like organize tabs, swipe through apps and edit photos with the tip of your finger.’

Besides a brand new display, the Chromebook Pixel has anodized aluminum alloy body construction with hidden air vents and ‘invisible’ screws. The keyboard is not a usual keyboard, the Chromebook Pixel has a backlit keyboard and under the keyboard there are stereo speakers for enhanced audio support. Being a premium Chromebook, the Pixel also spots with an etched glass touchpad and a 720p webcam is also available with three microphones for noise cancellation during video conference.

Coming towards the powerhouse, the Chromebook Pixel is powered by an Intel Core i5 dual-core processor with the clock-speed of 1.8GHz. For enhanced performance, there is Intel HD 4000 graphics and 4GB of RAM, Google has also provided solid state Flash memory architecture for faster data storage. Alternatively, the Chromebook Pixel also comes with a 1 Terabyte of free cloud storage for three years from the date of purchase. With such configuration, the Chromebook Pixel manages to give five hours of battery life.

The all new Chromebook Pixel will be available in two variants as a Wi-Fi enabled Chromebook Pixel and an LTE enabled Chromebook Pixel. The Wi-Fi version costs $1,299 (Rs.70.7K approx.) in US and £1,049 in UK, while the LTE version is priced at $1,449 (Rs.81.6K approx.) in US. The Wi-Fi version will starts shipping from next week onwards but the LTE version will take time and hit the US market in the month of April.
