Gionee on late Wednesday unveiled the Elife E8 and Marathon M5 as two of its new smartphones. Both the smartphones run on Android Lollipop operating system out of the box with Amigo UI on top.
The Gionee Elife E8 comes with a price tag of CNY 3,999 (approximately Rs. 40,000) and will be available for purchase in China starting July 15. The Gionee Marathon M5 is priced at CNY 2,299 (approximately Rs. 23,000) and is set to be available in the country starting June 25.
In the new range, the Elife E8 is the flagship offering by the Chinese smartphone maker that has high-end specifications and an all-new unibody design. The smartphone features a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with 2560 x 1600 pixels (QHD) resolution and is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek Helio (MT6795) chipset that has a 2GHz octa-core CPU. There is 3GB of RAM and 64GB on-board storage.
As the successor to the last year launched Gionee Elife E7, the Elife E8 has a 24-megapixel rear camera sensor with six-element lens and optical image stabilisation (OIS) technology. An 8-megapixel camera sensor is available on front. The rear camera sensor works with a software tweak to let users capture up to 120-megapixel images and there is 4K video recording support.
Gionee has provided Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with Amigo 3.1 on the Elife E8 that brings some proprietary features on top of Material Design elements. The smartphone has a ‘biological’ fingerprint sensor that provides an additional layer of security.
On the connectivity front, there is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, NFC, Infrared and a microUSB port with USB OTG support. The smartphone packs a 3,520mAh battery that is claimed to have fast charging support.
The Gionee Marathon M5, on the other hand, is the company’s replacement for the previously launched Gionee Marathon M3. The smartphone sports a massive 6,000mAh battery to deliver up to four days of backup on a single charge and there is an extreme mode to save standby time. It has a 5.5-inch HD AMOLED display and is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek MT6735 chipset that has a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU.
The smartphone has 16GB internal storage along with microSD card support for expansion and there is 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS and a microUSB port on the connectivity front and comes with dual-SIM card support with dual-standby technology.

The Gionee Elife E8 and the Marathon M5 will be additionally coming to India soon after their debut in China. Details about their price and availability in the country are yet to be revealed.
