Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale: Half a million mobile handsets sold out in ten hours
Flipkart on Thursday announced that it has sold half a million mobile handsets in ten hours after opening the sales of mobile phones during ‘The Big Billion Days’ sale. The sales were started on October 14 midnight.
The ecommerce company reveal that 75 percent of the total mobile handsets were 4G smartphones. Metropolitan cities Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai were the leading cities in terms of the sales but the company also saw “huge surge of interest” from tier 2 cities such as Nagpur, Indore, Coimbatore, Vishakhapatnam and Jaipur.
On announcing the new achievement, Mukesh Bansal, Head of Commerce Platform, Flipkart, said:
“It has been a blockbuster beginning for our mobile category sale. We are truly humbled by this overwhelming response from the people of India. With Big Billion Days, we have completely re-defined the online shopping space in India. Indian mobile revolution has truly come of age and the half a million mobile handsets sale record is truly a testament to the growing demand for smartphones in India.”
Flipkart says that of the total number of customers, 25 percent used exchange offers to replace their existing mobile handset with a new one during the sale. Most of the handsets were also available with EMI schemes from Yes Bank, Standard Chartered and Citi Bank that were availed by almost 50 percent of its customers.
The Bangalore-based ecommerce company started ‘The Big Billion Days’ sale in the country on October 13 that will continue till October 17. On the first day of the sale, the company sold 10 lakh products in the first 10 hours with 25 items sold per second and saw six million visits.
