Exclusive: HTC smartwatch with Android Wear coming soon

After the initiative taken by LG, Motorola and Samsung, Taiwanese giant HTC will apparently be the next leading smartphone maker to announce its Android Wear-based smartwatch. An internal source has confirmed TechOne3 about the arrival of the smartwatch with Android Wear platform.

In a close conversation, the source told TechOne3, “HTC is planning to launch its first smartwatch in a couple of months.” When asked about the presence of Android Wear, “Yes, Android Wear will be there as Google has partnered us for the development of its Android Wear platform,” he replied.

The source said that a team is currently in the development to make the smartwatch competitive enough to take on the other smartwatches, including the recently launched Android Wear-based smartwatches. This means, he further revealed, that the smartwatch will feature an attractive design with aluminium built and comes with a multitouch-supported touchscreen display.

The presence of Android Wear in the said HTC smartwatch confirms that the smartwatch will have Google services, including Google Now integration and Gmail, out of the box. In addition, users would be able to download apps directly from the Play Store to personalise their HTC smartwatch.

The Taipei-based company may prefer a competitive price tag for its first smartwatch to attract the buyers and is expected to start its global sale through Google Play Store soon after the official announcement.

Google had announced Android Wear platform in March and partnered with some of the leading smartphone manufacturers for making Android Wear-based smartwatches. While LG and Motorola had announced their smartwatches – the G Watch and Moto 360 respectively – moment after the announcement made by Google, Samsung had announced its Gear Live at the I/O 2014 developer conference in June.

Update: Some changes have been made in the above story following a request made by a company’s spokesperson.
