Don’t just buy a traditional LED TV, wait for LG’s Wallpaper TV

LED TVs are undoubtedly transforming with new technologies and LG, being as a popular player in the market, is making a new innovation to offer you not just a traditional LED TV but a ‘Wallpaper TV’ that can easily be attached to a wall. The new TV is currently under development by the company’s subsidiary LG Display and is likely to be launched sometime later this year.

The LG’s Wallpaper TV sports a 55-inch OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display panel that weighs 1.9 kilograms and has a millimeter thickness. It has some flexibility and comes along with a magnetic mat on rear to let users easily stuck it to a wall or remove it anytime with least efforts.

LG Display unveiled the first prototype of its Wallpaper TV at a press event in Korea last week. Though didn’t announced the price of the new TV panel, it suggested the arrival of similar innovations for the near future.

The LG Wallpaper TV has a polymide film that not only reduces the thickness of the panel but also provides flexibility and improves viewing experience through a slight curvature design from the middle.

LG Display’s OLED division head Yeo Sang-deog revealed that the company is planning to ramp up its OLED production by the third quarter this year.

The production of OLEDs are yet to surpass the total production of the LCD panels. However, the South Korean company is aiming to expand it OLED TV lineup with adding more models by the end of this year and is set to sell 600,000 OLED TV panels this year as well as 1.5 million next year.

Apart from innovations by LG, Samsung has been developing its new OLED TV panels to create a healthy competition in the market. It already launched curved TVs in markets like India and is in works to offer Tizen OS through its Smart TV lineup.
