Motorola Moto E has made a new history in the world of smartphones with its affordability. On the other side, the company’s mid-range entrant, Moto G, has been gaining popularity since its launch in February. While Moto E is seemingly the choice of first-time smartphone users, the Moto G is quite popular among the youth, especially among those who do not want to spend their entire bank balances in purchasing a smartphone. Display is considered to be the main thing which a person notices when holding a smartphone for the very first time. Though Motorola has provided an IPS display on the Moto E and Moto G, the display sizes and resolutions are a bit different on both the smartphones. While the Moto E has a 4.3-inch IPS display with 480 x 960 pixels (qHD) resolution which makes 256 ppi pixel density, the Moto G has a 4.5-inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 pixels (HD) resolution and 329 ppi pixel density. On the top of the displays, both the smartphones have Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection along with smudge-resistant coating. The quality of both the displays is quite similar in nature but with a change in their pixel density, the image production is higher on the Moto G when comparing with the Moto E.


Processor is the heart of any computing device and smartphones, nowadays, are in a battle to have more cores than their competing smartphones. In such competition, the Moto E has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, Adreno 302 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The Moto G, on the other hand, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM. While RAM on both the smartphones is same, the processing power is more on the latter smartphone than the former one.


If processor is the heart of the computing devices, storage is their brain. Motorola came into the mid-range market with its Moto G smartphone to test its comeback existence. This was the reason, the Moto G does not come with a microSD card slot for expanding the storage and only available in 8GB and 16GB storage variants. With the Moto E, the company has changed its view and therefore, provided a microSD card slot along with built-in 4GB storage to take on the competition. So when it comes to the storage, the Moto E can be a better choice, even as stated by a company’s executive in our earlier report, over the Moto G. However, if a user want to install more apps, the Moto G could perform well in that case.

Operating System

These days, the smartphone market is majorly dominated by Google’s Android operating system. This is the reason that Motorola chosen Android for the Moto E as well as Moto G. As the company had a close relation with Google in past, it is providing Android 4.4 KitKat operating system on both the smartphones, which is currently the latest Android version, and even promised to provide a major future update as well. In addition to the latest Android, both the smartphones have stock interface to give faster results than the competing smartphones.

Built Quality

Built quality of devices, especially the smartphones, highly influence the buyers as they look for a solid and strong enough built quality among all the available devices. Motorola considered the buyers’ demand pattern while making the Moto E and Moto G and has used high-grade plastic material to give solid built. Both the smartphones have removable back shells to add customisation and rubberise feel is available on each of the genuine shell to give better grip than a glossy design.


Camera has now become an important part of the smartphones. Taking this view, Motorola used a 5-megapixel camera sensor on the Moto E and Moto G. On the downside, the Moto E does not have a front-facing camera while the Moto G has a 1.3-megapixel front camera. Additionally, the Moto G has an LED flash on the rear for taking pictures in dark but the Moto E is designed for taking pictures only in daylight.


As a conclusion from the above mentioned aspects, the Moto E has a smaller display, inferior processor, lesser internal storage but along with expandable option, an fewer camera capabilities over the Moto G. On the other side, both the smartphones have same quality display, latest Android operating system, almost similar built quality and same rear camera sensor to impress the buyers.

On a closing note, the Moto E and Moto G have made the competition tougher in the entry-level as well as mid-range price segment for all the other international and domestic vendors. This would soon turn into a pleasant market for the end-customer who will get a better smartphone for a cheaper price.
