While we want to get connected with online facilities all the time, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a step ahead in this regard and today, the corporation has launched online recharge facility for the smart card users. The new online recharge facility will provide users an ease in recharging their smart cards and it also omits the time of standing in queues for the same.
According to DMRC, there will be 39 Ticket Reader-cum-Add Value machines initially installed at 13 stations including Dilshad Garden, Shahadara, Welcome, Seelampur, Shastri Park, Pragati Maidan, Karkardooma, Nirman Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Barakhamba Road, R K Ashram Marg, Jhandewalan and Rajendra Place. With these machines, commuters will able to check the amount available in their cards and provide information about their successful recharge through online service. DMRC Managing Director Mangu Singh has inaugurated the first Ticket Reader-cum-Add Value machine today at the Barakhamba Road Metro station. Mr. Singh has revealed that about a hundred such machines will be installed in the coming month.
For recharging the smart cards, commuters have to visit Delhi Metro’s official website or alternatively, a special portal for smart cards is also available to provide the same service. DMRC has partnered with ICICI Bank for the launch of this online automated fare collection process.
According to the statement, currently there are 69.75 per cent of Metro commuters using smart cards and nearly 17,000 smart cards sold each day from various stations of the network.
