CREO Mark 1 with Android-powered Fuel OS launched to rival Chinese offerings

CREO has finally debuted in the smartphone market with the launch of its Mark 1 in India. The new smartphone runs on Android-based Fuel OS and is touted to receive new software updates every month to ultimately counter some Chinese offerings in the market.

The CREO Mark 1 is the first smartphone model by the Bengaluru-based startup that previously brought its in-house Chromecast competitor Teewe. The new smartphone model is claimed to offer “compelling OS level” changes and receive new updates every month. It has proprietary features like Retriever, Sense and Echo.

“In our fearless endeavor to make a smartphone that is more than just the sum of its great specs,” says Sai Srinivas, co-founder and CEO, CREO, “we’ve built Fuel – an operating system that’ll give a new phone experience every month, with features that deliver on both, performance and functionality.”

The Mark 1 sports a 5.5-inch IPS display with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels (QHD) resolution. Under the hood, it has a MediaTek Helio X10 chipset that comes with a 1.95GHz octa-core CPU and PowerVR G6200 GPU. There is 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage with 128GB expansion option.

Build-wise, the smartphone flaunts a Gun Metal Black design with metal frame, and 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the front and rear.

As the Mark 1 comes with a promise — “A New Phone Every Month”, it has ReFuel option. This new addition allows you to receive monthly updates on the existing Android 5.1 Lollipop build. Also, you can send your feature suggestions and access forums as well as support. All this is quite similar to the previous efforts by companies like LeEco and Xiaomi.

“What makes these features better every month, is the first-of-its-kind, community inclusive update system that stems from feedback and suggestions from users. With their invaluable input, we will be able to deliver on our promise of making Android better,” Srinivas adds.

The smartphone has a 21-megapixel Sony IMX230 camera sensor on the rear with dual-tone LED flash and an 8-megapixel front camera sensor. Both the camera sensors have f/2.0 aperture lens on top. Further, there is 4K video recording support and some preloaded modes such as Live Photo and Beautify.

Utilising an advanced dual-SIM support, the new CREO smartphone offers high-speed 4G connectivity. It also has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS and a microUSB port and packs a 3,100mAh battery.

CREO Mark 1 specifications:

  • 5.5-inch QHD IPS display
  • Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with Fuel OS
  • 1.95GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 (MT6795) processor
  • 3GB of RAM, 32GB expandable storage
  • 21MP rear camera, 8MP front camera
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, MicroUSB port

The CREO Mark 1 will be available for purchase through Flipkart with a price tag of Rs. 19,999. At the given price, it would compete against Chinese models like the Lenovo Vibe X3, OnePlus 2 and Xiaomi Mi 5.

Despite being a new comer, the new smartphone is claimed to deliver a “superior” after sales experience through existing 106 service centres in 96 cities in the very initial stage. The company is also set to expand the service network with a total of 300 centres in 150 cities across the country over a period of time. Moreover, customers in some major cities will also receive an optional pickup and drop service.
