BlackBerry has recently added two new contenders in the smartphones market as BlackBerry Z10 and Q10. While the BlackBerry Z10 already grabbed a huge market attraction with a large number of sales, the recently launched BlackBerry Q10 is seems to be in somehow the same boat. With QWERTY keyboard, the BlackBerry Q10 is priced more than the earlier launched full-touch supported BlackBerry Z10. It is quite interesting that the Canadian concern is still taking the BlackBerry Z10 as its flagship smartphone even with a lesser price of the BlackBerry Q10. We have used the BlackBerry Z10 for a while and now we have recently spent some time on the recently launched BlackBerry Q10 smartphone, now we are in the mood to make a comparison between the both. We have received some questions from our readers about the difference between the two BlackBerrys and now we are here to find out the major difference between the duet. It is for the first time we are comparing smartphones from a single brand name but of course we know that the brand is such big which induces us to take this step. So let’s start our tour of comparison.
As the present scenario is demanding touch-enabled smartphones, BlackBerry has intelligently delivered the same in the market. Both the new BlackBerry smartphones, the BlackBerry Z10 and the QWERTY BlackBerry Q10 are having touch-supported display. The display quality of the latest BlackBerry smartphones are really top-notch and we have already commented on the same in our BlackBerry Z10 in-depth review. We were amazed with the BlackBerry Z10 display because in the smartphones industry, after Apple, we have experienced a perfect touch-supported display in the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone. But recently we have seen that the display quality of the newly launched BlackBerry Q10 is not as good as the elder BlackBerry Z10, however, undoubtedly it is still one of the most sensitive display. Of course we’ll cover more on the display quality and sensitivity of the BlackBerry Q10 in our in-depth review.
Coming towards the difference between the two. The flagship BlackBerry Z10 smartphone having a full-touch supported display of 4.2-inch with 768 x 1280 pixels resolution. On the other side, the BlackBerry Q10 has a 3.1-inch display with 720 x 720 pixels resolution. The BlackBerry Z10 has an LCD display but the BlackBerry Q10 has a Super AMOLED display with pentile matrix. Being in a smaller size, the Super AMOLED display is much brighter and sometimes it seems like over-sharpen. The pixel density of the BlackBerry Z10’s display compresses at 355 ppi which is more than the 328 ppi of the BlackBerry Q10’s display. Touch sensitivity of both the smartphones are buttery-smooth with no issue.
However, there is not much difference in terms of viewing between both the displays but full-touch support of the BlackBerry Z10 of course influence the touch-friendly users in the market over the BlackBerry Q10.
Form-Factor and Design
Form-factor is the main avenue where BlackBerry has maintain a large gap between the BlackBerry Z10 and the Q10. While the BlackBerry Z10 is based on full-touch support, the Q10 has a touch and type pattern with QWERTY form-factor. The BlackBerry Z10 is designed to compete Apple iPhone 5 and high-end Android smartphones. But on the other side, BlackBerry moved to its origin with the BlackBerry Q10, as the smartphone has the classic QWERTY form-factor. However, for the new generation, BlackBerry has provided touch support but still the Q10 is especially designed for BlackBerry fans.
On the designing part, the BlackBerry Z10 has plastic construction with rubberize back but the Q10 features luxurious plastic designing with a carbon fibre weave on the rear. On the measurement, BlackBerry Z10 has 130 mm height and 65.6mm width, while the Q10 has 119.6mm height and 66.8mm width. Due to the additional QWERTY keyboard in the Q10, the smartphone has 10.4mm thickness but the flagship BlackBerry Z10 features a skinny construction with 9mm thickness.
For touchscreen lovers, the BlackBerry Z10 is the only option in the latest lineup. But the QWERTY form-factor based BlackBerry Q10 has luxurious designing which expected to appeal the consumers more than the Z10.
