As reported yesterday, BlackBerry has launched its cheapest BlackBerry 10 operating system based BlackBerry Q5 in India. The smartphone is having a price tag of Rs.24,990 and it will be available across all the retailers in the country starting July 20.
On launching the BlackBerry Q5, Sunil Lalvani, Managing Director, BlackBerry India said;
“The BlackBerry Q5 smartphone has a stunning youthful design that comes in exciting colors, and offers the full cutting-edge BlackBerry 10 functionality as well as access to the growing catalog of BlackBerry 10 apps. With its physical QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen, it gives customers the best of both worlds.”
The BlackBerry Q5 features a 3.1-inch IPS LCD display with 720 x 720 pixels resolution. The smartphone is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor along with 2GB of RAM. For storing contents, the smartphone has 8GB internal storage along with a microSD card slot for expansion up to 32GB. There is a 5-megapixel camera sensor on the rear along with an LED flash and a 2-megapixel camera is available on the front for VoIP and BBM Video support. The rear camera supports up to 1080p (full-HD) video recording while the front camera supports 720p (HD) video recording.
In terms of connectivity, the Indian version BlackBerry Q5 has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port. On the network support, the smartphone has 4G LTE (FDD), HSPA+ and GSM frequency bands. The smartphone comes with BlackBerry 10.1 operating system and some renowned BlackBerry features as BBM, BBM Video, BlackBerry Hub, BlackBerry Time Shift, BlackBerry Story Maker and more are available out of the box. The smartphone packs with a removable 2180mAh battery which is claimed to provide up to 14 hours of standby time on a 3G network. To attract the youth at first sight, the BlackBerry Q5 will be available in three color options as Red, White and Black.

BlackBerry has revealed that the BlackBerry Q5 will be available with some EMI schemes which offer full finance of the smartphone on zero percent interest rate. As we have reported about the unsupported BlackBerry Maps for Indian region in our earlier reviews on the BlackBerry Z10 and the Q10, the company has stated that the BlackBerry Q5 will be available with MapsMyIndia service. So far there is no detail on the trade-in offer for the BlackBerry Q5 but the company has hinted that there will be an exchange offer available in the coming months.
