BlackBerry Classic likely to launch in India on January 15

A few weeks after its announcement, BlackBerry Classic is now likely to be launched in India next week. BlackBerry has sent out invites for an event scheduled for January 15 where would launch the new smartphone.

The invite suggests the launch of the BlackBerry Classic smartphone as it reads, “Join us to witness the unveiling of the new BlackBerry 10 [Serious Mobility for Serious Business].”

BlackBerry unveiled the BlackBerry Classic last month as its new QWERTY keyboard featuring smartphone. The smartphone runs on BlackBerry 10.3.1 OS and features a square 3.5-inch display with 720x720pixel resolution.

The BlackBerry Classic is claimed to provide an upgraded mobility experience over the BlackBerry Bold 9900 with its three times faster browser, 60 percent more screen space and 50 percent longer battery life. There is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960) chipset which is powering the smartphone with a 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU, Adreno 225 GPU and 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone has 16GB internal storage along with microSD card support for expansion up to 128GB and is packed with a 2,525mAh battery. There is an 8-megapixel rear camera sensor along with an LED flash and a 2-megapixel front camera sensor. It has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port.

The presence of BlackBerry 10.3 OS lets users install Android as well as BlackBerry apps on the BlackBerry Classic smartphone. The company has provided BlackBerry World and Amazon Appstore for download apps and games.

The India-specific price tag is yet to be announced but the BlackBerry Classic is available in the US for $450 (approximately Rs. 28,500).
