BlackBerry Classic goes official with 3.5″ square display and QWERTY keyboard

As expected, BlackBerry has just unveiled the BlackBerry Classic smartphone at a press event. The smartphone features a 3.5-inch square display and a QWERTY keyboard along with a trackpad and classic navigation keys to deliver users a full productive experience.

BlackBerry claims that the BlackBerry Classic upgrades the BlackBerry Bold 9900 experience with its three times faster browser, 60 percent more screen space and 50 percent longer battery life. The smartphone has BlackBerry World and Amazon Appstore for downloading all the popular apps and games.

The featured 3.5-inch display panel on the BlackBerry Classic has 720 x 720 pixels resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. On the performance front, the company has provided a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960) chipset which has a 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU, Adreno 225 GPU and 2GB of RAM. There is 16GB internal storage along with microSD card support for expansion up to 128GB.

The BlackBerry Classic smartphone runs on BlackBerry 10.3.1 OS which comes with Android app support and has features like BlackBerry Blend and BlackBerry Assistant. As an upgrade over BlackBerry 10.3 OS, the new operating system sports a fresh look with updated icons and has an instant action bar for the users to access all the commonly used functions directly from the center of the screen.

The smartphone has an 8-megapixel rear camera along with an LED flash and a 2-megapixel front camera. It has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, NFC and a microUSB port on the connectivity front and packs with a 2,525mAh battery.

On unveiling the BlackBerry Classic, John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO at BlackBerry, said:

The BlackBerry Classic will be available through local carriers and retail stores across the world starting today with a price tag of $450 (approximately Rs. 28,600).
