Average Internet speed in India reportedly become faster by 40 percent in next 12 months

Internet is nowadays becomes a necessary for all of us but in regions like India, the Internet connectivity is not as much faster as developed nations. But now Internet speed in India seems to become swifter as a cloud computing firm has stated that the average Internet speed in India would become faster by 40 percent in next 12 months.

According to a report by PTI, cloud computing firm Akamai Technologies has stated in a report that average Internet speed is likely to become faster by 40 percent to 1.8Mbps in the next 12 months as a result of investments in high-speed fibre network and affordable data plans.

In a report, Akamai Technologies Director of Products for Asia-Pacific and Japan Bruno Goveas said;

“Based on current industry growth trends, we expect a 40 per cent to 50 per cent increase in connection speed over the next 12 months. This translates to anything between 1.7 to 1.8 Mbps.”

The country reported to have an average connection speed of 1.3 Mbps in the first quarter of 2013, which is 0.3Mbps faster than the last year. On the other side, the average connection speed globally increasing by 4 percent to 3.1 Mbps in the first quarter.

From the last recent months, telecom operators, cable operators and service providers are investing huge amount to offer faster Internet connectivity using high-speed fiber network in the urban areas. Goveas stated that these operators are providing faster connection speed data plans right to the homes and apartments situated in the urban areas across the country. And now Goveas has stated that his team is expecting a faster growth in Internet speed for the residents of Tier II and Tier III cities as well.
