On top of Android Marshmallow, the Zenfone 3 comes with the latest ZenUI. The proprietary interface¬†replicates the experience of the last year’s Zenfone range and offers a range of customisations. There is a proprietary dialler with smart dialling feature and a custom messaging app with Asus Keyboard. You’ll also notice a unique quick settings panel if you’re moving to the first Asus smartphone. It includes all the basic settings such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a brightness bar.

Similar to its predecessors, the Asus Zenfone 3 comes preloaded with several apps. While most of them appeared to be useful and are there to improve the stock Android experience, some preinstalled apps add bloatware to the smartphone. But, of course, you can uninstall them with just one tap.

The Zenfone 3 has Google Chrome to let you browse the web. The browser supports multiple tabs and comes with an incognito mode. Web browsing is quite smooth on the large display, and the smartphone additionally comes with 4G VoLTE to deliver high-speed internet access on the go.

Asus has provided its proprietary SonicMaster technology with High-Res Audio and Smart AMP support to distinguish the audio experience. The smartphone also has a five-magnetic mono speaker construction and metal voice coil that both jointly work to deliver 24-bit/192kHz playback. We haven’t noticed any lag while playing a variety of tracks on the Zenfone 3. Notably, the performance was just on par with high-end offerings.

The Zenfone 3 ZE552KL has a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 (MSM8953) chipset that has an octa-core 2GHz CPU and Adreno 506 GPU. The smartphone also has 4GB of memory and 64GB of onboard storage as well as sensors like ambient light, gyroscope and magnetometer. All this enables the handset to not only perform some common tasks but also handle high-end games and 4K video playback.

We tested the performance of the Zenfone 3 ZE552KL on some popular benchmark apps. The smartphone got 61,591 scores on AnTuTu version 6.2.1, 4,028 multi-core scores on Geekbench 4.0.1, 38,550 scores on Quadrant Standard Edition version 2.1.1 and 1,588 scores on Vellamo version 3.2.6.
