Apple Watch gets upgraded with swim-proof build and GPS support

Apple has finally upgraded its 18-month old Watch. Called the Apple Watch Series 2, the new model is targeted at swimmers and fitness enthusiasts.

Unlike the first-generation Watch, the Apple Watch Series 2 sports an all-new build that is claimed to be “swim-proof”. The smartwatch is rated water-resistant 50 meters for swimming and surfing. Additionally, there is a special speaker that spits out water and resists the internal components.

Apple has not just provided the new build but some new hardware tweaks to compete against some high-end Android Wear devices. Thus, there is built-in GPS support. This hardware integration enables the Watch Series 2 to record precise distance, pace and speed to help users performing outdoor workouts.

Under the hood, the new-generation Apple Watch has a custom System-in-Package (SiP) with a dual-core processor. This new processor is designed to deliver up to 50 percent faster performance. The Cupertino giant has also provided a new, brighter display panel with 1,000 nits of brightness.

The Watch Series 2 runs on the latest watchOS 3 that brings easier launching of apps and a new Dock. The operating system also comes preloaded with some new fitness and health capabilities to suit fitness enthusiasts.

With gold, rose gold, silver and space grey aluminium color options, the Apple Watch Series 2 will be available in India starting October 7. It will come with an initial price of Rs. 32,900. Apple will additionally launch its original Watch with a dual-core processor for Rs. 23,900.
