Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus first weekend sales top 10 million

Apple today announced that it has made a new record with selling more than ten million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models in just three days after their launch in the first group of countries on September 19.

Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are so far just available in nine countries, namely the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. The Cupertion giant is set to start selling the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in over 20 additional countries on September 26 and is planning to make the new iPhones available in 115 countries across the globe by the end of this year.

On announcing the first weekend sales of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Tim Cook, CEO, Apple, said:

“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier. We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”

Apple started taking pre-orders for its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on September 12 and achieved the mark of four million pre-orders in just 24 hours after starting the pre-order process.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the new iPhones by the company which feature 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays, respectively. There is an Apple A8 chip which is powering the new iPhones and iOS 8 is available on the software front with the latest features such as QuickType keyboard, Family Sharing and Health app.

Alongside the new iPhones, Apple Watch, the first Apple smartwatch, was also unveiled on September 9. The Watch features a Digital Crown and is running on a tweaked version of iOS with Siri integration to provide a complete smartwatch experience to the iOS users.
