Android VP Hugo Barra leaves Google to join Chinese phone maker Xiaomi

Android is gaining high shares but today Android VP at Google has announced to leave the most popular mobile platform development and sets to join Chinese phone market Xiaomi.

Bye-Bye Google: Hugo Barra sets to leave Google to join hands with Xiaomi

Hugo Barra is one of the top executives at Google for Android development. Hugo Barra was officially titled as the vice president of product management for Android and during his tenure, Android gained a lot of shares from the global mobile operating system market. Barra was also frequent addresser at several Android related press events and Google I/O developer-centric events. The executive was jointly worked with Android head and Indian face, Sundar Pichai.

Now as Hugo Barra is set to leave Google after spending three years on Android, Xiaomi will be his next destination. Xiaomi is the emerging name in the worldwide smartphones market but it is a renowned brand in the Chinese market since last few years. Hugo Barra will be chaired as vice president at Xiaomi Global and considering his past efforts, Xiaomi will likely to have its name in the list of top smartphones player in the global market.

On announcing the leaving from Google and joining of Xiaomi, Hugo Barra said;

“After nearly 5½ years at Google and almost 3 years as a member of the Android team — the most amazing group of people I’ve ever worked with in my life — I have decided to start a new career chapter.

In a few weeks, I’ll be joining the Xiaomi team in China to help them expand their incredible product portfolio and business globally — as Vice President, Xiaomi Global.  I’m really looking forward to this new challenge, and am particularly excited about the opportunity to continue to help drive the Android ecosystem.

It has been an amazing ride and true honor to be part of the Android team at Google, and I especially want to thank Andy Rubin , Hiroshi Lockheimer, Sundar Pichai and Vic Gundotra for their phenomenal support and mentorship over the years.

Android team, I will truly miss you all!”

Now as Hugo Barra is decided to leave Google and its Android development, the concern will soon appoint another relevant person on the position of vice president for Android development. Google is being in news for announcing new developments including smartwatch and other innovations, so Android would still gain more in the coming future with its new executive.
