Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow released with new emoji

Google has released Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow as the new version of its open-source mobile platform. This new version brings many new emoji icons, and available for download on Nexus devices.

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow has a system-wide support for all the new emoji icons through Google Keyboard that comes pre-installed all on Nexus devices. There is a new emoji list layout, with total 10 tabs, and many new emoji icons that all come from Unicode 8.0. The new emoji include some country flags as well as sports and food icons to give you some new ways to express your feelings on Android devices.

Apart from the new emoji, the updated Android Marshmallow OS has rearranged navigation bar for tablets. This means that the on-screen buttons for back, home and overview are no longer available on the middle of the bottom strip. Instead, back and home buttons are now available on the bottom-left side, while the overview button is now placed on the right. This perhaps comes to deliver an easier experience on large-screen Android devices.

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow additionally brings back the old Do Not Disturb mode that Google added to Android 5.1 Lollipop. This new mode comes with ‘until next alarm’ option to let you make your device completely silent or on priority notification mode. The search giant had removed the same functionality with the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow earlier this year.

Google has not yet started the over-the-air (OTA) circulation of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. However, you can download the update to one of your supported Nexus device through the new system images. It is also expected to be started rolling out as an OTA update for all the compatible Nexus devices and Android One handsets in the coming days.
