The Amkette Evo Gamepad Pro 2 offers you all the physical controls that you need to play your favourite games on your Android device. All in all, it's a must-have device if you're a hardcore gamer.
Innovators in the gaming industry are shifting their focus from traditional game consoles to mobile devices. The primary reason for the change is the power pack performance of smartphones. They now have multiple cores to enhance processing of your tasks as well as some gigs of memory to boost your overall experience. But one thing still lacks. It’s the presence of physical controls. Yes, there isn’t any joystick or a D-Pad on the present generation of smartphone models to let you easily play your favourite game. While smartphone vendors are busy in developing new hardware, some companies are enthusiastically working to enhance their current experience. Amkette is among those entities. The New Delhi-based company last year brought the Evo Gamepad Pro as its first attempt to deliver something special for smartphones. And for this year, it recently launched its next-generation called the Evo Gamepad Pro 2. This new Bluetooth-enabled smartphone controller is touted to bring “the next-level of smartphone gaming” through some physical controls.
Amkette Evo Gamepad Pro 2
We started using the Amkette Evo Gamepad Pro 2 following its launch in India in February to test how it’s capable of bringing the “next-level” gaming for the smartphone users. So here begins our in-depth review.
What’s in the Box
The Amkette Evo Gamepad Pro 2 comes with a price tag of Rs. 2,899. It’s just Rs. 100 more than its predecessor but has some worthy improvements.
Amkette has bundled a tablet stand, USB cable and user manual with the Evo Gamepad Pro 2. Also, there is a code to use the specially developed Evo Gamepad app on your Android smartphone.
Amkette has tweaked the design of the Evo Gamepad Pro 2 from its last generation model. There are some new changes to enhance your gaming experience.
The first thing that you’ll notice on the Amkette Evo Gamepad Pro 2 is its professional design. It’s reminiscent of the Xbox One controller. There are two sticks and a D-Pad that occupy most of the top panel. Rest, the controller has four face buttons, start and back keys and a clamp to hold your smartphone.
Compared to the original Evo Gamepad Pro, the new version has a home and mode button. The home button allows you to reach your homescreen with a single press, while the mode button lets you switch from the existing game mode to mouse mode. In addition, the company has increased the adjustable clamp to support up to 6-inch smartphone models.
Once you open the clamp, the Evo Gamepad Pro 2 shows you three media keys — volume down, play/pause and volume up. The controller also has four LED notification lights that provide battery level and Bluetooth connectivity status as well as notify about the mode you’ve selected using the dedicated button.
Apart from the top controls, the Evo Gamepad Pro 2 has two triggers and bumpers on the front. A microUSB port is also provided between the triggers to let you charge the device using a USB wired charger.
The overall build of the Amkette Evo Gamepad Pro 2 is ergonomically designed and is robust for daily use. The controller isn’t a compact device to let you easily slip it into your jeans pocket. But it can still be your travel companion. Moreover, it has rubberised grips on left and right sides, and the provided clamp sports two rubber pads to let your precious smartphone comfortably sit on the controller.
