Amazon launches Kindle Fire HD lineup in India, availability starts from June 27

Amazon India, subsidiary of Amazon Inc. has announced the launch Kindle Fire HD tablets lineup in India. The tablets lineup consists Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HD 8.9, both the tablets were announced last year and recently came up for pre-order in 170 countries, except India.

On announcing the launch of Amazon Kindle Fire HD lineup in India, Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle said;

“Not only does Kindle Fire feature advanced hardware, it’s also a service. The combination of the leading apps, the largest book selection, great email and browsing and top rated customer service, we hope our customers in India will agree that Kindle Fire HD is the best tablet for a great price.”

Amazon India has revealed that both the tablets in the lineup will be available to Amazon India online store and across a number of electronic retail stores including Croma, Reliance Digital, E-Zone and Vijay Sales stores located in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and Pune, from June 27.

On the pricing of the 16GB version, the Kindle Fire HD is priced at Rs.15,999 and the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is featuring a price tag of Rs.21,999. The 32GB of the Kindle Fire HD and the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is priced at Rs.18,999 and Rs.25,999 respectively. Amazon has stated that users can purchase contents including games, apps and ebooks from their Kindle Fire HD tablets through Amazon.com account and purchasing will be made online through international credit or debut card, however, there is an option to choose currency as dollar or rupee for the purchasing.

Specifications wise, Amazon Kindle Fire HD has a 7-inch IPS display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. The tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with PowerVR SGX540 GPU. There is 1GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB storage options. On the connectivity part, there is Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/gn, A-GPS and a microUSB port. The tablet packs with a 4400mAh battery which is claimed to provide 11 hours of backup.

On the other hand, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 has an 8.9-inch IPS display with 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution. The tablet is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with PowerVR SGX544 GPU. There is 1GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB storage options. In terms of connectivity, the tablet has Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, A-GPS and a microUSB port. The tablet packs with 6000mAh battery with 10 hours of backup support.
