The new Amazon Fire TV Stick comes in a thumb drive-like design and has an HDMI out to deliver an advanced media streaming experience. The company has bundled a new voice remote with the Fire TV Stick that recognises voice commands for search a movie, TV show, actor, director or genre on the HDTV. In addition, there is an option to pass queries Alexa through the new voice remote to know latest weather, sports scores, traffic and music among others.
The Fire TV Stick is claimed to have four times the storage and two times the memory of Google Chromecast through its dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Besides, there is Dolby Audio support and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Amazon also refreshed the Fire TV with an all-new hardware that has the ability to deliver 4K (Ultra HD) content on to any compatible 4K screen. This means that the new Fire TV has 4K support for major Amazon features such as Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Video as well as comes with the ability stream 4K content directly through third-party services like Netflix.
The new Fire TV comes with 75 percent more processing power than the first-generation Fire TV and is claimed to deliver five times more processing power than the latest Roku. There is a 64-bit MediaTek quad-core processor and a dedicated GPU. Further, the new Fire TV has Wi-Fi 802.11ac MIMO, Dolby Audio technology and a microSD card slot. Users can also use the built-in Bluetooth support to connect any of their compatible speakers or headphones wirelessly.
The company has also brought the Fire TV Gaming Edition that has all the features of the new Fire TV and has an all-new wireless game controller. The Gaming Edition comes with a 32GB microSD card and has two preloaded game titles – ‘Duck Tales: Remastered’ and ‘Shovel Knight’.
To compete against the new Apple TV that the Cupertino giant unveiled earlier this month, the new Amazon Fire TV lineup is based on Android Lollipop-based Fire OS 5. The new operating system comes preloaded with Alexa digital assistant to offer voice search support in a way similar to Siri and there are features like Whispersync, 1-Tap Archive and a month of free Amazon Prime subscription.
The new Amazon Fire TV Stick comes with a price tag of $49.99, while the new Amazon Fire TV will be available for $99.99 and the Fire TV Gaming Edition for $139.99. All the new Fire TV models are currently available for pre-order and will start shipping in the US on October 22.
