Bharti Airtel today expanded its 4G coverage in India with launching high-speed data services in Shimla. The teleco so far has its 4G services in over 296 towns across the country and is aiming for a pan-India rollout in the coming future.
With the new launch, Shimla has become the first state in Himachal Pradesh to have 4G services. Airtel customers in the state can experience the high-speed internet access on their existing 3G plans.
On announcing the launch, Manu Sood, Hub CEO – Upper North, Bharti Airtel, said:
“As customers in India show an increasing propensity for consuming data services, we at Airtel are excited to take the lead in introducing the market to the power of blazing 4G speeds. With the help of the feedback received from the beta launches, we have now built India’s first commercial 4G network. Today, as we launch Airtel 4G for our customers in Shimla, they will be uniquely positioned for a superlative 4G experience. We are committed to building a world-class 4G network in the region.”
The teleco claims that customers in Shimla can experience 4G connectivity on their mobile devices using prepaid packs for as low as Rs. 22. In addition, there is six months unlimited music streaming and downloads on Wynk Music and select five movies per month for six months on Wynk Movies’ ErosNow channel.
Customers have also been offered ‘Infinity Plans’ starting at Rs. 999. These plans offer unlimited voice calling on mobile devices apart from free data access. Gurgaon-based Airtel has partnered with Flipkart to bundle 4G SIM with compatible range of 4G devices from companies like Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Lenovo and Asus.
