After the success of UbiSlate 7Ci and being renowned as Aakash maker, Datawind is all set for the third-generation Aakash which would be coined as Aakash 3. The tablet is expected to launch in the mid-2013 with new features and tweaks over the Aakash 2. Datawind official webpage highlights some expected specifications of the upcoming Aakash 3.
Aakash is a project led by Indian Government along with a Canadian-based concern Datawind. The project’s main aim is to provide tablets with a low-cost price tag for the Indian students. The upcoming Aakash 3 will of course have the low-cost price tag as the USP along with, the tablet will have some next-generation features which enrich the educational benefits for the students in the country.
On addressing a press event at the Kozhikode District Congress Committee, HRD minister M M Pallam Raju said;
“It is a fantastic initiative by the ministry to develop Aakash Tablet, a mobile device that can be utilised by students anywhere.It was successfully tried out. The second and third versions have come out and the fourth version is on the anvil.”
Datawind brightens some of the specifications which are expected to be finalized by the NMEICT (National Mission for Education through Information Communication Technology) before end of March 2013. The tablet will have the same 7-inch display with WVGA resolution, as the earlier Aakash 2 and the commercial version UbiSlate 7Ci. The second generation Aakash tablet is also expected to have a cellular modem through which, with using any mini SIM, users will connected to the internet. Datawind will also provide the popular UbiSurfer browser pre-installed for faster data connectivity out of the box.
Besides the internet connectivity support, Datawind has recommended some of the key specifications for the upcoming Aakash 3. The Canadian concern has also started taking pre-booking for the UbiSlate 7C+, which is the commercialized version based on the recommended specifications of Aakash 3.
Some of the Aakash 3 specifications recommended by Datawind includes 1GHz Cortex A8 CPU, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot. The tablet will also have a front-facing VGA camera for VoIP and video conferencing support.
